Choosing the Right Employee Lockers

Jan 30, 2026

Distribution and manufacturing centers need to carefully select the right lockers. Lockers not only store work-related items and changes of clothes, but also provide a space for personal belongings, giving employees a comfortable space of their own.

Just a pair of steel-toed boots and a hard hat can fill an entire locker, leaving no room for even a child's latest kindergarten artwork.

So, what types of employee lockers are available on the market? Do we really need to choose carefully? The answer is yes, the choice of lockers is crucial.

How Big?

Assuming you have enough warehouse space, equipping your facility with sufficiently large lockers is essential. They should be large enough to store all work equipment and still leave extra space for personal belongings.

Not only is the size important, but the orientation of the locker can also significantly impact its usability. For example, double-door lockers can accommodate gym bags or lunch coolers, which are difficult to fit in standard-width lockers.

Metal Lockers For Employees

Personally, I would rather choose a double-tier, double-door locker than a single-tier, standard-width locker.

This allows for more efficient use of space. Generally, the dimensions of a single locker range from:

Width: 6.5 inches to 48 inches

Depth: 12 inches to 24 inches

Height: 12 inches to 84 inches

Good Ventilation?

Does your changing room have air conditioning? Do your employees work in hot environments and sweat a lot? Do they need to store cleaning supplies in their lockers?

These are all good reasons to consider ventilated lockers. Vents help to dissipate odors from dirty clothes and keep the inside of the locker fresh.

Heavy Duty?

How thick of steel do you want? You get what you pay for. Thicker steel lockers are more durable and provide better protection for the contents.

If the lockers will be used frequently or store valuable items, choosing a more robust and durable model might be more appropriate.

Customization?

Perhaps you need more specialized tools for this task? Don't worry, there are many ways to customize and build lockers to meet your needs. You can add:

Bookcases

Coat racks

Wooden structures

Dividers

Drawers

Antibacterial agents

Sloped tops – no unsightly clutter, and much less dust and debris.
